Officially, Science Day in Azerbaijan was established on 9 April 2018. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, signed the order “On the Establishment of “Science Day” in the Republic of Azerbaijan”, which states that 27 March should be celebrated annually as the national Science Day.
The date of 27 March was not chosen by chance. It is connected with the history of Azerbaijani science, namely: on 27 March 1945, by Resolution No. 316 of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Azerbaijani SSR, the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan was officially documented and its charter was approved. Therefore, modern Science Day in Azerbaijan symbolically links the present with the moment of the institutional emergence of science in the country.
