Briefly about the Azerbaijan National H-index Ranking
This is an independent international ranking system created for the transparent and objective assessment of the contribution of Azerbaijani researchers to world science. The ranking is based on data from three major scientometrics platforms: Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. It allows you to see the positions of individual authors, scientific institutions and universities in Azerbaijan in real time.
The main objectives of the ranking are:
- to provide an independent assessment of the scientific achievements of Azerbaijani researchers and organisations
- to enable comparison of results with colleagues within Azerbaijan and with leading global centres
- to stimulate the growth of Azerbaijani science's competitiveness in the global arena
- to help government agencies and foundations allocate grant funding more effectively
- to serve as a benchmark for the strategic development of science and higher education in the country
Results for the second quarter of 2025
The ranking includes all leading universities, research institutes and academic centres in Azerbaijan. The Hirsch index is used as a comprehensive indicator to identify the institutions with the greatest scientific influence and the strongest higher education institutions in the country.

Why is the Hirsch index important?
This indicator remains one of the most objective and universal tools for assessing scientific weight. It takes into account both the number of publications and how often they are cited by colleagues around the world. A high H-index directly affects:
- success in obtaining national and international grants;
- the academic reputation of a scientist and their institution;
- invitations to major international consortia and projects;
- a university's position in global rankings
