As part of the implementation of the memorandum of cooperation between the company Scientific Publications and the Azerbaijan Academy of Labour and Social Relations, the second working meeting with the university’s academic staff and doctoral candidates took place.
Earlier, the company Scientific Publications signed a memorandum with the Azerbaijan Academy of Labour and Social Relations, which provides for active cooperation in various areas, in particular:
- Exchange of data on ongoing scientific projects and initiatives.
- Organisation and holding of seminars, conferences, webinars, as well as the development and launch of educational programmes and courses.
- Joint creation of web resources, scientific projects, research centres and similar initiatives.
- Cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research, scientometrics and academic activity.
- Information and consulting support for the preparation and publication of scientific articles in journals indexed in international scientometric databases.
This is already the second meeting this year held on the premises of the academy. It was attended by many new participants, among whom were also doctoral candidates and employees of the institution. At the event, the founder of the company Scientific Publications, Denis Sergeyevich Pilipenko, delivered a report.
The central topic of discussion was the importance of publications for the scientific career of a modern Azerbaijani researcher. During the discussion, it was noted that in many universities of the country only 5–10% of doctoral candidates reach a successful defence of their dissertation, and one of the main reasons for such attrition remains the lack of the necessary publications in journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
Denis Sergeyevich, in turn, emphasised that a well-structured publication strategy helps not only to meet formal requirements but also to significantly increase the chances of timely defence, obtaining grants and further career growth. The meeting also actively discussed the role of the Hirsch index and other scientometric indicators in assessing the effectiveness of scientists and organisations, the impact of publication activity on the university’s position in international rankings (for example, QS World University Rankings, Times Higher Education and National H-index Ranking), and practical issues of choosing journals, preparing manuscripts and overcoming typical difficulties when publishing abroad.
The participants showed considerable interest in the topics discussed and actively asked questions. This confirmed the mutual readiness of both sides to further develop cooperation. The organisation of the meeting and the event itself took place with the active participation of Professor, Doctor of Economic Sciences Vilayat Ismailov, who has been a reliable partner of the company for many years and makes a significant contribution to the development of science in Azerbaijan.
