“Scientific Publications” has traditionally prepared an updated list of publications that have ceased indexing in the global Scopus database. You can familiarize yourself with the current list of scientific journals that were excluded from the scientometric database in June 2024 in our monthly review.

The main reasons for the exclusion of journals from the Scopus database:
Scopus is one of the most authoritative scientometric databases in the world. The service's policy regarding the selection of scientific content is aimed at ensuring high quality and scientific significance of all posted materials. All journals included in Scopus are thoroughly checked by an independent advisory board for compliance with high quality standards. The journals are evaluated according to such criteria as scientific significance of publications, transparency of the peer review procedure, regularity of issues, quality and relevance of the posted scientific content.
Every month the international advisory board excludes from the scientometric database publications that do not meet the Scopus standards.
The main reasons for the termination of indexing of journals in the Scopus database:
-
low quality and scientific significance of publications
-
suspicious editorial policy
-
high self-citation rate
-
consistently low scientometric indicators
-
non-compliance with ethical standards.

The most common reason for journals to be excluded from the Scopus platform is the low quality of published materials detected by Radar. Radar automatically collects information about all indexed journals, including citation data, number of publications, and other important metrics. Based on the collected data, the system analyzes journals to identify suspicious processes. These may be sudden changes in the number of publications, citations, or other key indicators. Thus, the Radar system ensures constant monitoring and maintenance of high quality standards of scientific publications in the Scopus database.
Why is it important to check the indexation of a scientific journal in Scopus before submission?
Publishing in Scopus is a responsible and time-consuming procedure that requires time, patience, and financial investment, as ranking journals charge high publication fees. Before submitting materials to a journal, it is important to make sure that its indexing is still valid.
Checking the indexing of a scientific journal in Scopus before submitting an article to an editorial board is important for several reasons:
-
avoiding unscrupulous publications: a once high-quality journal can lose its reputation and be removed from the database due to ethical violations
-
reputation: journals removed from the Scopus database most often lose indexing due to publication of low-quality articles. The placement of research in such publications negatively affects the authority of a scientist in the scientific space
-
low scientometric indicators: excluded journals are no longer visible to the broad academic community. Articles published in such journals do not receive many citations.
