"Scientific Publications" continues its series on Scopus free journals! Previously, we reviewed Q2-Q3 editions in law and agronomy, but today we want to present a selection of editions in the economic sciences. In addition, we consider the questions: what is a quartile in Scopus for, how do you know if a journal is in Scopus, how do you choose a journal to publish and is it realistic to publish a Scopus research for free?
How does one know if a journal is part of Scopus?
Previously, we examined the specifics of indexing checks within this database. There are a few important nuances:
- To know if a journal is in Scopus requires knowing its ISSN or title.
- Then, search within the database for the required parameters.
- Go to the Scopus journal website.
- Note the years of coverage. If you see "coverage stopped in Scopus", the journal is not indexed in the database.
- If the search did not present any results for the parameters you set, the publication was never indexed in Scopus.
Notably, this type of search does not include information on free Scopus journals, but you may see "Open Access" next to some, which indicates that the journal operates on an open-access business model.
In addition, the "Scopus Sourse List" is considered to be a more accurate way of checking. There, the indexing information is updated more quickly than in the database itself. This clarification is particularly relevant in the context of journals recently included in Scopus, due to some technical nuances.

What is Scopus quartile? What does Scopus quartile mean?
In addition to the fact that journals should be indexed in Scopus, attention should be given to the main scientometric indicators. For academics in Azerbaijan, publications with Q2-Q3 indicators are the most relevant. Scopus journals that comply with such features have great influence within the database itself and the international world community.
Thus, the Scopus quartile - a measure of a journal's credibility. There are 4 quartiles in total, the meaning of which is to rank Scopus publications.
How to choose a Scopus journal for publication Q2-Q3 c economics?

- After this, you can proceed to a more detailed analysis. Go to the Scopus journal page.
- Familiarise yourself with the main metrics.
- Analyse the scope of the publications' interests.
- Go to the journal's website, evaluate it critically.
- Scopus free journals indicate information about the absence of publication fees on the publications page.

Publish an research in Scopus for free? Types of publication contributions
We have dealt earlier with the fact that there are different business models for Scopus journals. Open-access publications imply that payment is made by the author for the openness of the work to the world scientific community. Notably, it does not apply to all Open Access publications. Occasionally, Scopus journals operate on a scheme whereby publications are made available to readers, authors are not paid for, and funding is provided by sponsors.
Unfortunately, there are very few Scopus journals of this kind nowadays, and there is a large flow of content and a long waiting list. Therefore, without patience, plenty of time and perfect quality, it is unlikely to publish the research for free on Scopus.

Most Scopus publications provide for publication fees. But what does the author have to pay for? The most common types of fees:
- Submission fees - implemented at the pre-publication stage. It is a fee for the review of a Scopus research by reviewers and editors (approximately $50-$150). This type of payment does not guarantee publication in Scopus.
- Membership fees - a kind of "subscription". The author pays a fixed amount to the journal ($150-400), which covers the costs of the reviewers, editors and possible publication in Scopus (one or more). The scientist thus pays "up front" for publication to the Scopus journal with which he wishes to collaborate. This kind of payment does not guarantee publication in Scopus.
- Page/colour printing charges - printing charges for a Scopus research that has already been accepted and is scheduled for publication. Can be up to $1,000.
- Publication fees (APC) - fees for publishing or processing researches. The most common type of publication fee. Usually a fixed amount, but sometimes discounts are available. APC can range from $50 to $4,000.
"Scientific Publications" recommends that scientists carefully plan the choice of a journal for publication and encourages them to focus not on the amount of publication fees and the publication's scientometric indicators, its development dynamics, its integrity, and the published content of the publication.
If you have any difficulties in selecting a journal for publication, choose the "Scopus publication" service and our experts will contact you as soon as possible!
